Set against the rugged charm of the coastline, this garden celebrates the harmony between landscape and architecture. A mix of native and sub-tropical species responds to the coastal winds, creating a layered, textured sanctuary that feels both effortless and considered. Each planting choice is intentional, inviting a sense of calm and connection to the surrounding natural environment.
Reflecting the signature ‘Green on Green’ philosophy of Steven Clegg Design, the garden’s lush layers and tonal variations create a seamless dialogue between inside and out. The space feels fluid and immersive, where architecture and landscape merge, and the rhythm of the coast becomes part of the experience—a tranquil retreat defined by subtlety, sophistication, and a deep respect for nature.
Behind the scenes at Stephen Clegg's shoot, Stephen is one of the most humble and genuine designers I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with. His thoughtfulness shines not only in his designs but in every interaction, making the experience of documenting this garden truly rewarding. The space itself beautifully synthesises the connection between architecture, landscape, and the surrounding natural environment.
We started the morning with warm, soft light, which gradually gave way to a drifting storm. The diffused, moody light that followed perfectly suited the architecture and planting, highlighting the textures, tones, and subtle layers that define the design. I even got a little adventurous and foraged through the garden myself often when shooting landscapes, I like to immerse fully in the space, focusing less on rigid compositions and more on capturing the essence and feeling of the environment. Here are a few playful shots from the day that capture that spirit.
